Itinerary

Day 1: Vientiane Arrival (-)

Warmly welcome you to Lao’s capital - Vientiane. Gilded stupas, ancient and 21st century modern beauty that has always been the city highlights, and tourists can help themselves fall for this beautiful combination.

Day 2: Vientiane City Tour (B)

We will have a full day sightseeing the captivating capital of Laos - Vientiane which is a beautiful combination of Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, American and Soviet culture.

The tour will take you to explore the most famous highlights of Vientiane including the National Museum, Wat Sisaket – the greatest temple that still preserves its numerous silver and porcelain Buddha statues through a long period of time, which also give you the best imagination about the past. Then, we will stop at Haw Phra Kaeo - the gigantic temple which is the former home of the famous Emerald Buddha.

When it turns to the afternoon, we shall browse at the Morning market’s older part and then heading to visit Pha That Luang. After that, get ready for a pleasant climb to the Arc De Triomphe of Laos - Patuxai. The building owns a gorgeous mosaic on the ceiling, when getting on top, a stunning vast area of Vientiane shall reveal.

Day 3: Vientiane – Hin Boun (B)

Say goodbye to the city of Vientiane and take a 6 hour drive to Hinboun in the southeast. The province is recognized as one of Laos' most beautiful natural landscape, yet least touristy.

You will definitely fall for those magnificent limestones that dotted the paddy fields. En - route we will pay a visit to the 15th century stupa which will make you surprise with its architecture and a hill - tribe market. There will be many chances for taking photograph as well.

We will arrive in Hinboun in the late afternoon. Our accommodation will be a lovely riverside lodge in the setting of the magnificent limestone formations.

Day 4: Hin Boun – Thakhek (B)

Your first destination of this day tour is the impressive Kong Lor Cave, which is gigantic with 100m in height and 7.5km in length. Furthermore, along the way exploring, arrays of stalactites are fully adorned to the cave. Underground, the mellow river keeps flowing till it reach to its end.

Sit on a long tail boat holding lamps to provides vision. When you get to the other side, trek for a short time to the villages to have lunch on the bank of the river and immerse your body in the fresh cool water. In the region, many animals and plants have chosen to settle down, like monkeys and several large cats including Clouded Leopard, Civet Cat and Tiger. About local Fauna, exist the many different kinds of Ferns, rare Orchids, Cycads and a variety of Epiphytes.

Later in the afternoon, drive for about 1 hour to Thakaek in the South-Central Laos (halfway between Vientiane and Champasak province), which is the capital city of Khammouane province. It was once a major administrative and trading point under the ruling time of the French. Nowadays, we can see the signs of the past through the old colonial houses and wide avenues of the area. Especially, owing to the ideal location, Thakhek is a necessary stopover for visitors who travel by land to explore the central southern of Laos.

Day 5: Thakhek – Pakse (B)

Talat Lak Sawng market is our first stop today, also known for the name of "Market Km 2". After that, drive on the National Road 13 to reach Savannakhet. On the way, stop for a short time to visit the That Ing Hang, which is considered as Laos' second most sacred place, only after Wat Phou. This time - honored temple preserves a Buddha relic which was placed under a gilded umbrella fixed on the top of the structure. Under French occupation, the stupa was restored in 16th and 20th century.

When you arrive in Savannakhet, pay a visit to the interesting Museum Dinosaur (closed on Saturday and Sunday) which is in partnership with France. Have lunch at a local restaurant. Afterwards, keep moving to Pakse and get to the city in the late afternoon.

Day 6: Pakse – Champasak – Khong Island (B)

In the morning, depart from Pakse to 4000 islands. You will stop en route at the pre - angkorian temple of Vat Phou, which is recognized by UNESCO as the World Heritage.

You shall have some time to discover the Ou Mong Ruins before heading for Khone Papheng, which is the popular tourist attraction in 4000 islands. With the length of 10 kms, the waterfall has become the most enormous waterfall throughout Southeast Asia.

Then, you will reach to Don Khong - the largest island of Si Phan Done. Take a dip in the hotel's pool and contemplate the captivating scene of the waterfalls. Lunch and dinner on your own. Stay one night at the hotel in Khong Island.

Day 7: Khong Island – Around – Pakse (B)

You will spend this whole day today discovering the two small islands of Don Det and Done Khone - backpackers' favorite places. Relax when cruising on Mekong river enjoying the local daily life with the image of children playing under water and fisherman netting fishes.

Then, hire a bike and ride slow around the two islands, which is connected by an old bridge. Check Ban Khone fisherman village out. Right there, you can also find the ruins of French railway tracks and the stunning Liphi Waterfall. Take your time there and shoot some amazing photos.

When it turns to the afternoon, we will be on the motor - engine boat and head to the Cambodian border, where the famous Irrawaddy dolphins can be seen.

Travel back to Pakse and relax. Meals on your expense. Overnight stay at the hotel in Pakse.

Day 8: Pakse – Departure (B)

Breakfast will be served at the hotel. The rest of the time is yours to spare until you are picked up and transferred to Pakse airport for departure flight.

Trip Notes

Time travel: Possible to travel all year around however May to Oct will be rainy season. The wet season witnesses the country at its most lush and vibrant.

Rooms are available from 14.00 on arrival day until 12.00 on departure day, room supplement charge will be added for request of early/late check in/out.

Price for infants and children will be quoted as follow:

  • Children under 2 years old: Free of charge (Maximum 1 child under 2 years old travels with 2 adults; from the second child, 50% of the regular fare will be applied) 
  • Children from 2 to 5 years old: 50% of the regular fare will be applied
  • Children from 5 to 11 years old: 75% of the regular fare will be applied
  • Children from 12 years: 100% of the regular fare will be applied

During Peak Season and special occasions, surcharges may be added to the price:

  • Christmas and New Year’s Eve: Compulsory meals would be added during these times of the years, depends on hotels or resorts you will stay overnight.
  • Laos New Year: 12 April – 18 April: Extra fee will be applied during holiday.

Visa requirements:

For Laos: You must have a valid passport and a visa (or visa on arrival) to enter Laos. Our consultant will be happy to advise you on visa requirements.

Your passport must be valid for six months beyond your planned stay, and you must have at least one blank page for each visa stamp.
